Diagnosing Malaria

7964

Malaria, transmitted by mosquitoes, requires laboratory tests for accurate diagnosis.

Tests Include:

  • Blood smear examination: Identifies malaria parasites in the blood.
  • Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs): Detects malaria antigens in the blood.
  • Molecular tests (PCR): Identifies mixed infections, and detects drug resistance.
  • Additional tests: Complete blood count assesses infection severity; liver function tests monitor organ involvement.

Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are crucial in fighting malaria.
